Snake Charmer
By Michale Schulte
Wristwatches geared toward motorcyclists
naturally tend toward the utilitarian. Saucer-dialed
pilot's watches and digital displays are certainly practical,
but what if the wearer desires something a little more exotic,
something that will peek out of a leather sleeve with a little
menacing flash?
Enter Formotion. The Sausalito,
Calif.,-based business has been manufacturing onboard timepieces
for Harley-Davidson and Victory motorcycles since 2000.
The company has built a solid reputation for making gauges that
withstand intense vibration and constant exposure to the
elements.
The glittering Snake Chronograph, with its
diamond-encrusted case and snakeskin band, speaks to Formotion's
desire to fuse its reputation for durable workmanship with a
ruggedly chic look. Set on a rhodium-plated stainless
steel barrel case, 252 clear, black, and brown diamonds
totalling 1.55 carats are arrayed in a glittering Python pattern
around a double curved mineral glass lens. The sleek
tonneau shape gives the Snake an elegant retro feel while
allowing for maximum flash from the gem configuration.
Beneath the serpent's skin, an ETA Swiss movement, a
mother-of-pearl face, and PNP hands with super LumiNova for
exceptional night visibility keep time. As an added
complement to the resilient materials, the Snake is water
resistant to five ATM (165 feet). The limited run of 250
numbered pieces combines Formotion's ability to craft roadworthy
timepieces and a masculine elegance in a package worth taking
along for the ride.
